A draft passed the German federal cabinet yesterday (Oct 2), mandating the sharing of real-time mobility data, by public agencies, transportation companies, map providers, and operators of infrastructure.
Mobility providers are required to share their data through a central platform ("Nationaler Zugangspunkt") for free. Those data should be usable for both commercial and non-commercial purposes.
Wow, that had totally escaped my attention so far, and depending on how it is implemented could be a game changer. No more suing creators of great public transportation apps because the schedule is considered copyrighted my the municipal Berlin BVG. Or being able to provide alternative lists of EV charging stations with real time info... Lots of potential.
