I am trying to move away from VSCode, I am watching closely to Kakoune and Helix.

I found many IDE from Jetbrain a reasonable compromise. They're mostly proprietary but at least they do not try to hide it or trick the developers

I was sure I saved an interesting article about Ms "hijacked open source" with #github and #vscode but I can't find it anymore… 😅

Because you have bias there, Open Source has been always driven by corps and market.

In fact I prefer refer to it as Free Software (as in freedom).

I don't really care what happens in the open source space because I already expect the enshittification factor!

Oh, of course you're right. I'm also prefer #freeasinfreedom software recognizing that "open source" is just an utilitaristic ethic less approach that is appreciated by "intrinsically unethical" entities that are the "soulless corporations".
