Interesting thread over on Twitter by the Asahi devs. TL;DR Yes, support for booting 3rd party OS on M1/M2 Macs is an official feature, not a hack or bug. It is a policy. https://twitter.com/marcan42/status/1554395176025849856

is it ?

I don't understand what the consequences are, exactly

Could I install Fedora Silverblue on a M1 mac ?
in reply to Gilbert Busana

Yes. Linus Torvalds himself is using Fedora arm64 on his M2 MacBook. Is that an acceptable reference?

that sounds really interesting. I would love to see some review of the experience (performance, stability, battery life). If it's enough for Linus, that's a good sign.

Apple of course wants to keep making money and publishing the specs to allow free-as-in-freedom operative systems to run on their M1/M2 hardly fits their goal. I hoped some giant put its weight in #RISCV but it's just wishful thinking

me too, I quit with Apple some years ago as a desktop OS but I have to say that when my gf's M1 entered the stage it made _each one_ of my machine feel like a 100 years old one. Really amazing what they did, and really amazing that third parties have to be able to boot _by policy_

It also seems that current #AppleSilicon is actually more open then certain #Lenovo when you try to install another OS 😰

that is exactly my point. I’m so sad about the current Lenovo situation being a huge Thinkpad fan, I wish every maker was like Apple in this

PS: I have carefully avoided the term "evil"
