This is the memory graph for the Pi4 running this service. Looks like 2GB is the absolute minimum and 4G is more comfortable.

So an 8gb #pi4 will run a "fediverse instance" (mastodon or pleroma?) at ease?
I guess that for a family node it could also double as media server

I would prefer a Pine64 or Odroid board, those SBC's have more power. RockPro64 is nice and can even slap a PCIE to NVMe adapter to get super fast read/write

I'm also looking for an board to build a small familiar NAS, with Pine64 and Odroid being the best candidate. I would use a PCIe to connect 2 SATA drives but also adding a NVMe would be nice. Ideally my NAS would have 4 drives and 1 nvme, but I haven't found a way to implement this.

at that point look into a Synology NAS, I’m using a RS422+ higher end versions all for NVMe caching too. At the very least build a TrueNAS box it works super nicely
in reply to Gilbert Busana

I would already have bought a #synology #nas if they allowed installation of another operative system. I don't trust then, especially after all the late NAS-related security issue. #TrueNas on X86 hardware use too much energy.

I already have a Pi4 running #kodi noticing that it is "underused" even when playing media, that's why I was thinking to give it another task: running Pleroma or Mastodon (the former being more efficient AFAIK)

not sure I’d want the TV to stop when someone with a high follower count reblogs you.
in reply to Paolo Redaelli

it’s underused until you get a round of people boosting and liking your posts. Happens a lot. Best to split services for performance and security. Personally I would run it at least over a separate VLAN too
in reply to Gilbert Busana

I dearly hope that kodi tries to be a real time application. It would help to force the fediverse server process to be nice (I.e. with low priority)
