I think that the acquistion of Sinergise by Planet is very exciting/interesting. https://investors.planet.com/news/news-details/2023/Planet-to-Acquire-Sinergise-Business-to-Expand-its-Data-Analysis-Platform/default.aspx The EO Browser https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/eo-browser/?zoom=6&lat=43.2932&lng=11.96411&themeId=DEFAULT-THEME&toTime=2023-03-30T16%3A16%3A58.288Z is a gateway for many into #earthobservation I hope it continues. Plus its powering the new copernicus site https://dataspace.copernicus.eu/ #eochat

I don't know how to feel about the acquisition, after reading Gilberto Camara and Aravind. But I've always felt like the Copernicus program has a lot to improve, for example, ARD data, better communication with users, tooling (SNAP...), etc. The lack of innovation in the sector in the EU is worrying.

@rnanclares Yeah I've read those comments as well. Incredible amount of acquistions Planet has made, buying Terra Bella was a genuine suprise to me. Now Sinergise. They are getting state of art tech. I've been involved in more discussions about clients planning to use sentinel hub than ever before, it certainly has traction. But I'm not sure I agree with the lack of innovation in the EU though, Sinergise is(was?) pretty innovative right?
in reply to Andrew Cutts

I'd say it was, but it's only one company. There are some small companies building interesting stuff but nothing comparable to what the US is doing.

@rnanclares IceEye, Satellite Vu, EOS etc. I do see what you are saying though. The ecosystem may have smaller parts that giants like Planet, but it is just as vibrant. We are just in the acquistion phase again it seems. The search for customers continues!
in reply to Andrew Cutts

Well EOS is still in the air 😅 , same for VU. But yeah, all launching, at this point there isn't much innovation in that. I want to see the "insights" not the images, vertical integration, consumer ready solutions, etc.

@rnanclares A lot of them look like solutions looking for a problem to me... I still stand by the farmstar (used to be infoterra now airbus?) programme, going strong for 15? years in France and doing the stuff most ag eo companies do far better.

@rnanclares Also Vista Remote Sensing do very cool and clever stuff, but since it ain't "AI", people overlook them.
in reply to Jose

@jgomezdans I haven't read about them before, but seeing their products I don't see anything special (talking about innovation).

@rnanclares other than they've been doing for 20 years stuff that a lot of up and coming startups can't really do particularly reliably.
