Copyleft ensures that Free Software remains Free. Stockfish filed a lawsuit when ChessBase distributed parts of #Stockfish work under a proprietary license, violating #GNU GPL obligations.

Checkmate! #Copyleft won. Stockfish secured numerous concessions from ChessBase to respect the GPL.

From what I understand: Chessbase cannot distribute the software any more for a year which included Stockfish software. But: Will Chessbase's software be published?
I understand that the current modifications despite including GPL code will not be published to the buyers.
Why is that?
Is it because a buyer would need to make the case? Is it because they had a resolution this way?

@niccokunzmann Because the current software that you are talking about, is the software that is violating the GPL.

If it is violating the GPL, then it is technically not software that was developed legally, and therefore does not have permission from Stockfish to be 1) developed using their code in the first place, and 2) released/published.
