Arm today announced that it has made a strategic investment, a minority stake in Raspberry Pi -- the arm of Raspberry Pi responsible for the new Raspberry Pi 5 and past Raspberry Pi products.

I won't buy anymore an ARM device based...

And I won't buy a RISC-V either til the day you can use such architecture as any other trivial x86 computer.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention cool down your enthusiasm... My concern with all these ARM SOCs is: unless they land officially on the upstream kernel you have to rely on your distribution or upon the manufacturer to get a working kernel image.

I am just, personally, tired about this whole situation.

I am currently struggling with a SBC I have cause I can't get U-boot reading the changes I made to grub and therefore it won't boot. And U-boot hasn't been designed with the simplicity in mind like GRUB or LILO, it is a complicated stub that work at low level and requires skill that I lack.

We came back again where technology is hard to grasp for the sake of somebody else but not the end user, and I don't like it.

I share all your concerns. I'm hopeful that the time is ripe for #ARM becoming a real first class citizen in the #freeasinfreedom ecosystem. It seems that #qualcomm said they won't put barriers to those wanting to install Linux in their forthcoming #snapdragonxelite platform
