Tech business writers really struggle to understand that a free protocol doesn't usually come from one company, and even when it does, it's not theirs. If it's a genuinely free protocol, it's a commons.

@paoloredaelli whatsapp even use modified version of xmpp. I was amazed too when I came to know about it. Welcome to the club.

I'm pretty sure you can connect to a Jitsi Meet call using some XMPP apps. I haven't tested this though.
