☣️ #Mastodon "CEO" stops support for #Android #ReproducibleBuilds in his "official" app because he insists on being able to force his own code to be downloaded to their devices at any time without consent.

🗨️ Dev team: "[we] should never have agreed to have reproducible builds in the first place."

➡️ If you're using this, it's time to switch to one of the many other apps that aren't actively hostile against user freedom. #FreeSoftware #OpenSource

As I'm pretty ignorant on the issue I dare ask: is it the same thing of #Telegram asking you every few days to install its upgrades that does not rely on either #playstore and #fdroid repositories?
in reply to Paolo Redaelli

@paoloredaelli I don't use proprietary software like Telegram, but is it actually downloading and facilitating the installation? If so, yes, it would seem to be the same thing that CEO is trying to do.

(As opposed to simply informing users a new version is available, etc.)

It informs you there is an upgrade, downloads it and then let you install it the way you like.
Btw the client side is #freesoftware , only the server side is proprietary. A suboptimal choice I admit, it is the biggest tradeoff I'm allowing to myself. Truly #freeasinfreedom #instantmessaging software are not "polished" enough for non techies
