People can be as upset about this as they want, but so long as they continue to watch #YouTube they continue tacitly supporting their user-hostile actions. If you really want to make a difference, stop watching, and tell content creators why. When you can convince them to move to platforms that don't shove ads down your throat every 3 minutes, THAT is when you'll see #Google change their tune.

Just found out that @osgeo has a @peertube instance: https://video.osgeo.org/home. It seems also there s a kind of relationship with some of Mastodon accounts like @robe
Until now, I failed log in with my OSGeo LDAP credentials (the same I use for plugins.qgis.org, lists or trac) but I might retry later.
Still, it's a really nice initiative! 👏
Can't wait to see videographers like Alasdair Rae publish on this instance!

consider using a #PeerTube instance to host your videos, unless you are planning to gain some money from advertisement that will be added by Google. You'd get a very small portion of that money and only if very many people will start following you, while people willing to watch your videos will be enforced to also view advertisement with no way to skip forward.
A lot of advertisement ends up in schools for the sole reason that educational content is only found on YouTube.
